DHL Australian Bushfire Fundraising Appeal

Story

As we begin 2020, Australia is in the grip of a bushfire season like no other in living history. Thousands of people have been evacuated, two dozen lives heartbreakingly lost, volunteers exhausted, and millions of hectares and wildlife populations devastated.

So how can we help?

Organisations and charities on the ground have expressed that the best way we can help is through monetary donations. Direct funds will enable the relief effort to source and distribute the appropriate types of support and supplies, when and where they are most needed.

You can show your support for those impacted by making an employee donation today to the DHL Australian Bushfire Fundraising Appeal. DHL has committed – AsOne – to match all donations to this page dollar-for-dollar up to a total of AU$500,000 (€308,641), with the goal of together raising AU$1 million.

Funds raised will be divided among the following charities:

• Australian Red Cross

• NSW Rural Fire Service

• St Vincent de Paul Society

• Rural Aid Australia

• Wildlife Victoria

• RSPCA NSW

Since December 2019, DHL in Australia has donated a total of $33,574 (€20,724) through company and employee donations to the NSW Rural Fire Service, St Vincent de Paul Society and Rural Aid Australia. While this has been an incredible team effort, the severity and impact of the fires has developed further since the start of the new year, and many people and wildlife will still continue to need our help as they rebuild in the coming months.Your donation will go towards helping impacted communities, volunteers and wildlife, and any amount is greatly appreciated.

The DHL Australian Bushfire Fundraising Appeal will be accepting donations up until 10 February, 2020, and contributions from DHL colleagues around the world are welcome.

From our hearts, we thank you wholeheartedly for your generosity and support.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our Employees

Q. How have our colleagues in Australia been impacted by the bushfires?
A. Due to the locations of DHL’s sites in metropolitan areas, thankfully the majority of our employees personally have largely escaped any major impact. For employees who have been impacted directly or indirectly, we have reached out to offer our full support.

Q. What is DHL doing to ensure our employees remain safe?
A. On the health and safety front, we continue to monitor air quality levels on daily basis across the country, putting the health, safety and wellbeing of our employees, service partners and contractors first.

Q. I am feeling concerned about these recent events and need someone to talk to – where can I go for support?
A. At a local level, the contact details of our free and confidential employee assistant program have been shared via email. Please contact your manager or division/ country’s Human Resources team if you require these details again. For non-DHL employees, you can find support through Lifeline Australia: https://www.lifeline.org.au/

Donating & Charities

Q. Why hasn’t XYZ charity been included as a beneficiary of the drive?
A. The selected charities have been chosen following consultation and approval from the DHL divisions in Australia. The listed charities are registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission and adhere to the GoFundraise operational and licensing requirements for charities within Australia.

Q. Will my donation be tax deductible?
A. Yes, donations of $2 or more are tax deductible for donors who are Australian tax payers. Please note that your donation will be split evenly across the six charities; therefore, a minimum donation of AU$12 is required to receive a tax deductible receipt from the charities. A tax deductible receipt is emailed automatically at the completion of each transaction. System emails have been known to filter out from your Inbox, so check your Junk/ Spam/ Clutter/ Quarantine boxes as well. For those based outside Australia, it is best to check with your relevant tax body to confirm.

Q. I am based outside of Australia – will I be able to contribute to this appeal?
A. Yes, as long as you have a card that accepts overseas transactions you will be able to contribute. Please note donations will be charged in AUD and some card providers may have conversion or transaction fees.

Q. What payment methods are available?
A. You can make a donation using Credit Card (Mastercard, Visa and American Express) or PayPal.
